MEGA UPDATE! Part 2 - Terry Despatch

I overhauled my sister's 1987 Terry Despatch a few months ago. It has not been on any test rides other than up and down my street. So I can't say it's been completed, but it looks presentable.

I posted about it in an earlier post, so I'll skip the introductions. I basically took off and cleaned all the parts, put fresh ball bearings and grease, spray some Boeshield T-9 inside the tubes/waxed the outside. The only things I changed were the bar tape, rear tire, and the saddle clamp on the seatpost.

  1. Very cool bike! I like the use of the smaller front rim for smaller riders; I'm going to be building a bike for my wife, and she'd probably need a similar size.

  2. The sloping top tubes on today's bikes allow for really small bikes with 700c/650b wheels, but if you want a small lugged vintage bicycles, these are definitely worth considering! It's not too frequently, but these small Terry's or the Centurion Ironman Master's do pop out here and there. Terry Bikes still makes these small frames, I believe.

I actually haven't measured the wheelbase, but I would think this frame geometry would decrease it. If that's the case, I wonder if it affects the ride at all. Or I might just be thinking about this completely wrong.
